Danger comes from wanting, fear, and from being ambitiously goal-oriented instead of perserveringly path-oriented. We abandon the slow, step-by-step work that creates enduring change.

Charity Ride

Goulburn to Citi Classic Road Race and Charity Rides
Sunday 20th September

This year the Ben Mikic Foundation is sponsoring:

A BMF Team in the Goulburn to Citi Classic Road Race

The road race team will be led by Southern Highlands Cycling Club President Richard Vollebregt.  Starting at about 7:45am at Goulburn a combined ‘A’ and ‘B’ Grade scratch race will ride the170km course finishing at Camden around 11:45am. The race will include three sprints and three King of the Mountain (KOM) sections and will be run as a team’s race, similar in principle to the “Tour de France” where the team works to get their rider a victory in any of the stage disciplines.

A BMF Goulburn to Citi Charity Ride Team

Similar to last year, a team led by BMF Director Tom Schymitzek will ride the full distance from Goulburn to Camden; systems are being put in place to make sure that this ride does not turn into a race like it did in 2008 and the intended schedule is to kick off at 5.50am from Goulburn with a 30 min break at the check point at Mittagong Golf Club and a second 28 min break on top of Razorback, arriving in Camden at 11.06am.  Another feature of the 2009 event is that men can join the ride at Mittagong leaving at 8.50am with the main party from Goulburn and following the same time schedule.

A BMF Charity Ride Womens Team

For the first time a BMF Womens Team will take part, hopefully led by Lynne Vaughan who has just had her second baby.  Starting at Mittagong Golf Club at 8.20m with a break at the check point on Razorback and arriving in Camden at 11.14am.  This ride will be an exercise in displaying road safety, with the team riding at a steady pace as one group.  Turramurra Club watch out!

The Charity Rides will be the BMF’s major fundraising event in 2009 and we are hoping that we can generate a good level of support to further the work of the foundation.  Those agreeing to participate in the Charity Rides – either the Full Monty from Goulburn, or the Half Monty from Mittagong, or the Womens Ride are asked to raise $700 each and BMF will provide a leaflet to help each rider to gain commitments from small and large donors; we will also provide a BMF kit for everyone, so we’ll need to get jersey and knick sizes fairly early on to ensure all riders are kitted out before the ride.

We are anxious to get the bulk kit order into Cannibal with time to spare, so if you decide to ride in this important event can you please email Andrea Mikic on apmikic@gmail.com or call 0405 534 546 or Darren Mikic on dmikic1@bigpond.com or call 0405 534 541 or home: 4872 2636 and place your order for a new jersey and/or knicks. Can you also email Phil Herd on pherd@westnet.com.au or call 4888 2310 and confirm if you will be joining the Full or Half Monty or the Womens Ride as we need to get buttoned up with the all the admin and pretty soon provide riders with a briefing for the event. Chick here to download the flyer.
